WHY PLAY A SHORT COURSE?
One of the most respected golf teachers in the world has quite a bit to offer on that subject (he is PGA star Phil Mickelson’s short game coach). Dave Pelz says “65 per cent of the shots golfers take are inside 100 yards, and 80% of ‘blown’ shots are from those distances. Yet 92 per cent of all golfers spend most of their time practicing full swings on the range and 5 per cent on putting. That’s crazy, people aren’t fishing where the fish are!” Playing a short course regularly can go a long way in providing the right answer. That important short game will improve dramatically because those exact shots are what you will experience every time you play the Highlands.
EXPERTS AGREE, HIGHLANDS IS SPECIAL
What do the experts think of Highlands? Larry Gilhuly, Director, Northwest Region, United States Golf Association (USGA) says – “The unique nature of your operation provides an important niche in the local golf community, providing the ability to have a “short” round of golf.” John Saegner Jr., Senior Director, Pacific Northwest Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association (PNGA & WSGA) adds – “I truly believe you have a gem on your hands.” Dick Ferguson, Executive Secretary, Tacoma Golf Association (TGA) chimes in – “I’m sure you will enjoy this little Tacoma jewel.”
WHERE THE SCORING IS!!!!!
Highlands is a par 27 nine-hole golf course in Tacoma’s north & west ends, toward the Narrows Bridge. There are eight bunkers and three water hazards on the course. One hole measures 200 yards and the remainder range from 100 to 187 yards. The course record is 23 for nine; 50 for 18 (24-26). If your short game needs fine-tuning, you will enjoy the sweet sounds at our “wee bit o’ Scotland”.
